The Importance of Focus

In today’s extraordinarily competitive economy, you need the freedom to concentrate on making the unique aspects of your business as terrific as possible. And you need the freedom to focus daily on further enhancing your business. With extreme outsourcing, the go-it-alone entrepreneur can, for the first time, do these things.

A number of excellent books have addressed the central importance of focus in achieving business success. A few of the insights provided in this material are shared below. But this book goes a step further to show you how to set up your business to take advantage of the power of focus. In the past, solo entrepreneurs might have recognized the need for focus but as one-man bands found it impossible to establish an infrastructure that really allowed them to develop this capacity. As detailed later in this chapter, new sophisticated capabilities have dramatically changed, in recent years, the ease with which solo entrepreneurs can outsource critical business functions.

An excellent book that describes the strength that anyone can achieve through sustained attention to a problem is The Power of Focus. Two of the coauthors, Jack Canfield and Mark Hansen, are also the creators of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series. In the introduction, the authors note: “Remember, it’s all about focus. The main reason most people struggle professionally and personally is lack of focus.” [Emphasis is mine.]
