The value of focus is stressed throughout this book. But there’s one aspect of it that hasn’t been discussed: Focus is important so that you can learn as much as you can as fast as you can. Without a dedicated concentration on learning, your chances of long-term success are slim.

As a solo entrepreneur, you are going to try things. Some of these will work; others will not. What’s most important, however, is that you have the ability to learn from what you are doing and thereby continue on your path to success. In Failing Forward: How to Make the Most of Your Mistakes, John Maxwell quotes William Dean Singleton, the co-owner of Media News Group:

Too many people, when they make a mistake, just keep stubbornly plowing ahead and end up repeating the same mistakes. I believe in the motto, “Try and try again.” But the way I read it, it says, “Try, then stop and think. Then try again.”
